Shoot him again! What for? His soul is still dancing!

Yes, I just got back from Bad Lieutenant. Nicolas Cage is once again brilliant and Eva Mendes incredibly beautiful…But even if the dream cast from Ghost Rider mesmerizes you for a few moments, this film is not about those two and it does a great job in making a statement not through the cast but through the incredible intelligent story, the wonderful directing and perfect image.

Bad Lieutenant is technically a remake of the 1992 production of Abel Ferrara but as I’ve heard (sorry, I didn’t get the chance to see the original) it has nothing in common with it but the main character. The plot seems very simple and predictable:

After Katrina, police sergeant Terence McDonagh rescues a prisoner, hurts his back in the process and earns a promotion to lieutenant plus an addiction to cocaine and painkillers. Six months later, a family is murdered over drugs; Terence runs the investigation. His drug-using prostitute girlfriend, his alcoholic father’s dog, run-ins with two old women and a well-connected john, gambling losses, a nervous young witness, and thefts of police property put Terence’s job and then his life in danger. He starts seeing things. He wants a big score to get out from under mounting debts, so he joins forces with drug dealers. The murders remain unsolved. A bad lieutenant gets worse. (iMDb)

The surprise though comes towards the end as this is no regular story of a bunch of destinies gone wrong that end tragically. No, the film actually has a sort of a happy ending (but I won’t ruin that) and the ‘bad’ lieutenant is not that bad after all…

Loved the iguanas and the dancing soul 🙂 I truly recommend it!!!
